Endorsements

Mile High News - Arvada Press, Golden Transcript, Lakewood Sentinel & Wheat Ridge Transcript

The race for District 1 Commissioner has two talented, able candidates. Either will bring respectability to the often controversial board. Our nod, however, goes to Sue Windels, who is leaving the state Senate. Windels is well versed on a multitude of complicated issues. She has knowledge of the system, the governmental process and the intricacies of state statute. As a state legislator, her background in considering vast policy issues will be a needed attribute in moving the county forward.

As for Republican candidate, Faye Griffin, we are pleased with the stability she has applied to the Treasurer's office, and believe her background and experience is needed further in that capacity. We want, and need, Griffin to stay put.

Our endorsement for commissioner goes to Windels. Put the senator in this seat.

Kathy Hartman, Jefferson County Commissioner

I am proud to support Sue Windels for Jefferson County Commissioner. As the Chair of the Senate Education Committee, Sue Windel fought to ensure that our children have the best education possible. As County Commissioner, she will fight to make Jefferson County the best place in Colorado to live, work, and recreate. Her experience setting budget priorities on the State's Capital Development Committee will be most helpful, as the County faces many competing needs.

Congressman Ed Perlmutter (Colorado CD 7)

I wholeheartedly support Sue Windels for Jefferson County Commissioner. She has been a tireless advocate for the people during her 10 years of service in the Colorado state legislature, and her experience, enthusiasm and energy will provide great leadership for Jeffco. Sue's expertise will help create new green economy jobs, and make Jefferson County a leader in the renewable energy industry.

Sue Windels is enthusiastic about the Congressman's support: "This endorsement is important because together we will be able to focus state and federal resources on Jefferson County, building the kind of economic engine needed to create and sustain new jobs and green industry."

Jacob Smith, Mayor of Golden

I've had the chance to talk at some length with both of the candidates for the District 1 Jefferson County Commission seat, Sue Windels (just finishing her last term as a state senator) and Faye Griffin (currently the County Treasurer). I don't know either very well, and both strike me as earnest and committed, but I think Sue Windels is likely to represent Golden's interests better, especially on the beltway. I also think highly of Sue's record in the Colorado State Senate, especially as a champion on education and conservation issues. I am supporting her.
